FIVE Writing with AI CHat GPT Failure?

My Experiment with Automating Blog Writing Using GPT—And Why It Didn’t Work

🚀 The Goal: Automating My Blog Writing Process

As someone who’s always looking for ways to streamline workflows and cut time without sacrificing quality, I had one big question in mind:

Can I train a custom GPT to write my blog posts with the same level of depth, storytelling, and engagement that I create manually?

I had already successfully created an AI-powered Image Creator GPT that produced visuals in a way that closely matched my own style. So naturally, I thought:

💡 If I can automate my image creation, why not do the same for blog writing?

The idea was simple—if I could build a GPT that could handle blog writing at a high level, I could cut my writing time in half or more and focus on other creative projects.

Spoiler alert: That’s not what happened.

🔧 The Setup: How I Built My Blog Writing GPT

I spent time carefully crafting detailed instructions for my GPT, making sure it followed a process similar to the one I use manually:

1️⃣ Ask me 1-3 personal Q&A questions before drafting.
2️⃣ Use my answers to create a strong, engaging hook.
3️⃣ Structure the article in an easy-to-read, skimmable format.
4️⃣ Ensure natural storytelling, not just dry step-by-step writing.
5️⃣ Integrate SEO and lead generation CTA placement naturally.
6️⃣ Before reviewing a draft, always check if personal insights were included.

With these instructions in place, I tested it out—and immediately ran into problems.

⚠️ Where It All Went Wrong

1️⃣ The GPT Followed Instructions—But Too Literally

The AI was technically doing what I asked, but it lacked nuance and voice.

🔹 It would ask only one personal question instead of building on my responses.
🔹 The structure was rigid and mechanical—like a perfectly formatted guide but without personality.
🔹 CTAs felt forced instead of flowing naturally within the article.

It was like handing someone a list of ingredients and expecting them to bake a gourmet meal—but instead, they just laid everything out in neat piles. It was missing the soul.

2️⃣ It Couldn’t Capture My Voice

The biggest problem? The AI completely lost my tone and style.

I compared drafts written by:

  • My Custom GPT → Structured, technically correct, but flat and uninspired.
  • Claude 3.7 → More natural flow, stronger storytelling, but needed research input.
  • ChatGPT 4.0 (Here!) → Engaging, adaptable, and responsive to real-time feedback.

💡 Lesson Learned: No matter how much I fine-tuned the GPT, it couldn’t replicate the dynamic way I think, write, and adapt mid-process.

3️⃣ Full Automation Won’t Work—But a Hybrid System Will

After testing and tweaking, I realized:
🚀 I can’t fully automate my blog writing, but I CAN optimize my process.

🔹 Best Use for My Custom GPT → Research, outlines, SEO structuring.
🔹 Best Use for Claude → Rewriting and refining a structured draft into a smoother, more conversational piece.
🔹 Best Use for ChatGPT (Here!) → Personalization, engagement, and final storytelling tweaks through guided Q&A.

This hybrid method lets me cut down my writing time while keeping my voice intact.

🔹 What Happens Before I Bring a Draft Here:
Before I bring a draft to ChatGPT for final personalization, it has already gone through the Claude process. Claude refines my structured draft into a more fluid, storytelling-driven piece, and then I bring it here to add a personal touch, ensure engagement, and align it with my unique tone and experiences.

🎯 Final Thoughts: What I Learned from This Experiment

Not all GPTs are created equal. My image creator GPT worked because image generation is more structured than writing. Blog writing needs more nuance, which my custom GPT lacked.
You can’t automate personality. Writing is about more than structure—it’s about voice, flow, and emotion. AI can assist, but it can’t replace a human touch.
Hybrid AI workflows are the future. I won’t be fully automating my blog writing, but I now have a system that helps me save time without losing quality.

Will I Try to Build a Writing GPT Again?

Maybe—but for now, I’ll let Claude and ChatGPT handle what they’re best at while I focus on what matters: writing content that feels like me.
